The season 8 of the series, “Dancing with the Stars” premiered on March 9th, 2009. The basic format of the series was similar to that of previous seasons, except for a few changes here and there. After selecting thirteen couples as participants, new rules were announced to the contestants, like three more dances (Argentine Tango, Lindy Hop and East Coast Swing) had been added to the list of dances. A new rule was added this season, that a dance-off between the two bottom contestants will be conducted, which will give them another chance to save themselves and also make it easier for the judges to determine who will be eliminated.

When the list of the contestants came out for the eighth season, a couple named Ty Murray, who was a rodeo champion and singer-songwriter Jewel were two of the contestants. But while practicing, Jewel fractured both her tibias, thus making her unable to participate in the show. But her husband decided to continue his journey with
Dancing with the Stars and Jewel was replaced by The Girls Next Door star, Holly Madison. The second contestant who had to leave the show even before the show started was Nancy O’Dell. She too had to leave the competition because of a torn meniscus, which would require surgery. Melissa Rycroft, The Bachelor star, replaced her on the show.

The series is hosted by Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris. Like the previous seasons the judges for this season too are Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba.
